The Original Belmar Quad Bunk design with integrated storage stairs by The Stockton Mill.

The Belmar and The Williston: Reclaiming the Original Quad Story

In the world of custom woodworking, imitation is common. But for a third-generation craftsman, there is a deeper truth: The original is always where the soul of the design lives.

Long before "Quad Bunks" became a trending search term or a product category for national mass-producers, there were two specific builds in our Attica workshop that started it all: The Belmar and The Williston.

Why the Names Matter

At The Stockton Mill, we didn’t start naming our builds as a marketing tactic. We named them because each one was a bespoke solution for a specific family’s home.

  • The Belmar: This was the original high-capacity prototype. It was engineered to solve the "impossible" footprint problem—how to sleep four or more comfortably while maintaining the structural integrity of a permanent built-in.

  • The Williston: This build refined the "Lifestyle" aspect, proving that a bunk system could look like a high-end architectural feature rather than just "kids' furniture."

Often Copied, Never Duplicated

While many in the industry have recently adopted our naming conventions and even tried to mirror our specific footprints, they are missing the Generational Craftsmanship that happens at our bench.

When you look at a Belmar or a Williston from The Stockton Mill, you aren't looking at assembly-line components. You are looking at:

  1. Founder-Level Engineering: We didn't learn how to build these from a manual; we wrote the manual through trial, error, and decades of sawdust.

  2. Structural Integrity: From the specific joinery in our storage stairs to the weight-bearing capacity of our upper platforms, the "Standard" was set by Terry Stone.

  3. The Authentic Connection: Our Wichita-area clients in neighborhoods like Andover, Maize, and Eastborough appreciate that they are buying from the source, not a copycat.

Investing in the Benchmark

If you are a vacation rental owner or a homeowner looking for a high-capacity solution, you have a choice. You can buy a piece inspired by the Belmar, or you can own an Authentic Stockton Mill Belmar.

Because we prioritize this level of detail, we continue to strictly limit our production to six major commissions per year. This ensures that the Belmar you receive is built with the same precision as the very first one that rolled out of our shop.
