Vertical Optimization: Scaling the Modern Guest Suite

Vertical Optimization: Scaling the Modern Guest Suite

The Vision

In many Wichita homes, the challenge isn't the floor space—it's the volume. Standard furniture leaves the top half of a room empty and wasted. At The Stockton Mill, we view the vertical plane as an opportunity. By engineering systems specifically for 8ft ceilings, we double the utility of a single room without sacrificing the "open" feel that high-end design requires.

The Technical Standard: Linear Precision

When we design a one-wall system, we prioritize both the footprint and the clearance. To ensure a professional-grade experience for guests of all ages, we adhere to these specific engineering minimums:

  • Linear Footprint: 172 inches wide x 42 inches deep.

  • Vertical Clearance: Optimized for standard 8ft ceilings.

  • Integrated Access: Includes a 15-inch wide structural staircase for safe, easy transitions.

The Engineering Truth

We don't build "kits." We build permanent sleeping systems. This means every component is part of the structural integrity of the unit.

  • Fixed Shelving: Each unit features 3 fixed shelves plus top and bottom. We eliminate adjustable pins to ensure the unit never sags or shifts over time.

  • All-Age Rated: Our systems are engineered to support the weight of adults, making them a "high-capacity" solution for any guest, not just children.

  • Custom Depth: 12-inch standard depth keeps the room feeling spacious, with Deep Base Upcharges available for those needing extra storage.

The Stockton Mill Legacy

As a 3rd-generation woodworker based in Attica, Kansas, I limit our shop to 6 major commissions per year. This allows me to ensure that every dimension—down to the 15-inch landing—is executed with absolute precision.
